Abstract:
Internet of Things (IoT) gives a huge variety of intelligent applications. Smart homes (SH) are a famous application of IoT that enhances the quality of life. Security is the principal challenge when discussing IoT since it is accessible around the world. Thus protecting SH against unauthorized customers may be very important. Access to sensor datasets is vital for SH research. Cost, time, limited quality, and amount of present sensor datasets prevent researchers from obtaining sensor data sets. SH simulation is a solution to solve these limitations. This paper proposes to improve an existing SH simulation tool to be remotely controlled within a secure server. The data sets were created using a hybrid, open-source SH simulator OpenSHS, (Open Smart Home Simulator), for generate data sets. The activities of persons in the virtual environment were captured by OpenSHS. The scenes in OpenSHS can only be controlled via the Blender program. For remotely controlling objects in Blender, a web server was developed that automatically retrieves information on all objects in a scene and manipulates their characteristics remotely. To add security for the server a web page was designed with password protection to prevent unauthorized users from accessing the server. Finally, the system security was validated with different four passwords based on their success rate; confusion matrix was calculated for the most secure password. The results reveal that the proposed approach is efficient prior to the SH research.
